World’s first “beating heart” supported by 3D4Med models

The team of Dr. Pelenghi, director of Cardiac Surgery Unit at Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo (Pavia), performed the world’s first “beating heart” surgical implant of an innovative pulmonary valve prosthesis on an over 50 years old patient, suffering from idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. The surgical strategy was planned on the virtual and 3D printed anatomical model of the affected district, realized by the 3D printing clinical laboratory “3D4Med“. The structures reconstructed from the CT dataset included both pulmonary and systemic intra-thoracic circulatory systems together with the atrial chambers.
